Acid Alkaline Diet Plan


The acid alkaline diet (aka alkaline diet) can dramatically improve your health, the way you look and feel, and your overall quality of your life. 

Before we jump straight into the sample alkaline diet plan, it's important to first understand the structure and key components of an alkaline diet so that you can create your own meals.

For the first month you're on the alkaline diet, I recommend you test your pH everytime you pee. This will help you to see which meals, foods and drinks cause your body to become alkaline or acidic. Important times to test your pH are first thing in the morning (before eating or drinking) and before and after meals. If, after testing, your body is acidic have an avocado, celery stick or half a cucumber along with water with lemon. This will immediately raise your pH to an alkaline state.

To test your pH you can either use litmus paper (available at the health store) which is the cheapest way or, if you're really serious about improving your health, you can invest in a electronic pH meter (it's more accurate).

1. The Structure & Critical Components Of An Alkaline Diet

A. Proper Structure of an Acid Alkaline Diet

For each meal, 75-80% of your plate should consist of alkaline foods, especially vegetables. The other 20-25% can be from acid forming foods such as carbohydrates and/or animal protein.

When selecting foods and beverages for your meals, use the acid alkaline foods chart and try to incorporate the most alkaline and least acidic foods into your meals.

Keep in mind that cooking your food makes the food more acidic. So eating raw foods is the best.

B. Alkaline Foods

a. The Foundation

As just mentioned, every meal you have should contain 75-80% vegetables. Big monstrous salads should be the centerpiece of all your meals. I always have cucumber, avocado and celery in my salads because they are very alkaline.

You also want to have lots of water with either lemon or lime. This will alkalizing your body almost immediately. Anytime your body is acidic, squeeze an entire lemon into a glass of water and drink it. I usually drink it through a straw so that the acid in the lemon/lime doesn't erode my teeth. Lemon and limes are acidic, but they have an alkalizing effect in the body.

The least acidic carbohydrates are:
  • millet,
  • buckwheat, 
  • quinoa, and 
  • spelt.
If you don't weight train or workout intensely, the following sources of protein will suffice:
  • nuts, 
  • seeds; and 
  • legumes (beans, peas, lentils etc.).
These proteins are not complete proteins, but eaten together they will form complete proteins and provide you with the adequate amounts of complete proteins that you need. People who weight train or workout hard need high quantities of complete proteins.

These are excellent sources of complete proteins:
  • hemp protein,
  • quinoa, and
  • soy protein.
If you're going to eat meats, chicken and turkey are better the red bloody meats like beef.

b. Water

If you just change one thing in your diet, drinking lots of water, it's the single most important thing you can do for your health. To determine how much water you should be drinking go to the bottom the article drinking water benefits explained, it will show you how to calculate your daily and hourly water intake. Generally though you should aim for at least half a cup of water every hour, but more is better.

Drinking ten glasses of water a day has shown to dramatically decrease your chances of diseases and cancers. Water neutralizes, dilutes and eliminates acids from your body via your urine, sweat and bowels. Making you more alkaline and healthier as a result.

The best water to drink is alkaline ionized water, but that requires you purchase an expensive water ionizer, which can range anywhere between $1,200-$4,000. I wouldn't even consider buying any water ionizer cheaper than that, it will likely break down within months or it simply won't do the job properly. I've heard of one story where the water from cheaper water ionizer tested out as alkaline initially but then tested acidic soon after. I recommend Kangen water ionizers. Tony Robbins and his son use it. If you know Tony, he only uses the best.

If you can't afford a water ionizer don't worry, drink Fiji water. If you look at the picture below, on the right-hand side you can see the back of the Fiji bottle, which states it has a pH of 7.5. On the left-hand side you can see the pH of the Fiji water when I poured it on the litmus paper. Fiji water is indeed alkaline.

c. Healthy Fats

You want to avoid the bad fats that come from animal fats (saturated fats) and butters (trans fats). These are the fats that raise your cholesterol and clog your arteries. They also have no nutritional value whatsoever.

On the flip side, you absolutely NEED the good fats, which are polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats.

Here are the benefits of eating healthy fats (polyunsaturated & monounsaturated fats):
  • they're alkaline
  • help eliminate acid from the body (making you even more alkaline)
  • protects against many common illnesses and diseases
  • boosts your immune system
  • is a source of energy for the body
The best sources of healthy fats are:
  • oils (fish oil, hemp oil, flax seed oil , borage oil, olive oil, and pomegranate oil )
  • avocado
  • olives
  • nuts
  • fish

d. Mineral Supplements

It's important to add a mineral salts supplement (NOT table salt) in your acid alkaline diet, because it alkalizes your body and has tremendous health benefits. Sodium, magnesium, potassium, calcium, silver, copper, iron, and zinc are all great alkalizing minerals and sources of electrolytes. These minerals neutralize the negative effects of acids.

These are the mineral salts I use, they're from the Himalayan..

It's recommended that you take one teaspoon of mineral salts in one big glass of water two to three times per day.

2. Acidic Foods To Avoid

When following an acid alkaline diet you want to avoid these acidifying foods as much as possible:
  • all sugar (including sweet fruits)
  • dairy
  • meat (especially red meat)
  • eggs
  • coffee
  • alcohol
  • processed food

3. Sample Acid Alkaline Diet Plan

You will find that the following sample acid alkaline diet plan will not only improve your health but help you shed some unwanted body fat as well.

Immediately Upon Waking Up: 1 glass of water with 1 teaspoon of baking soda

Breakfast:
Large Salad
Cereal (Kamut Krisp) with almond milk and hemp seeds sprinkled on top
Water with one teaspoon of mineral salts

Snack:
Water with lemon
Soya nuts
Celery stick with almond butter

Lunch:
Large Salad
Veggie Burger
Water with lemon

Post-Workout Alkalizing Concoction:
1 whole lemon squeezed in water
2 celery sticks
1 whole avocado

Snack:
Baking soda with water
One slice of whole wheat bread with almond butter
Vegetables slices (cucumber, bell pepper, broccoli) with hummus

Dinner:
Large Salad
Salmon
Quinoa Pilaf
Water with lemon

Snack:
Water with mineral salts
Almond nuts
Broccoli soup

Bedtime:
Baking soda with water
